I
was born in Mexico City, Mexico in 1951. I am the middle of 5 children. My
Dad was born and raised in Mexico of American parents and my Mom was born in
Ohio of German immigrants. I attended Marymount High School which was an all
girls Catholic boarding school in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Next I attended Ohio
Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. My majors were Spanish and Child
Development. In college I had many small jobs such as switchboard operator,
“toast girl” and dishwasher at breakfasts, delivered the mail and was also
the house parent for the girls Christian House my Senior year. I spent half
my Junior year living in Segovia, Spain. It was my Sophomore year at Ohio
Wesleyan that I became a born again Christian.
After graduation I moved to Washington DC and got a job at the International
branch of the National Bank of Washington using my Spanish. After that I
became a picture framer for three years. I also taught Spanish to pre-school
children. During that time I was very involved as a Young Life leader
continuing the leadership role I had started in Ohio.
Next I got a job in the business office at the Psychiatric Institute. It was
at a colleague’s Jewish wedding that Ken and I met. I held that job till our
oldest son Peter was born and I became a housewife. About 7 years later I
got a job as the Assistant Director of the Tall Oaks Early Learning Center.
I left that job when Mount Oak offered me the job of Treasurer in 1993.
Ken and I have attended Mount Oak since 1983
