Check Out Our Small Groups
We currently have a number of small groups that meet every week or every other week. Below we have included some simple descriptors of some of the groups that we have going and we would love to connect you to an existing group or connect you with other people who are looking to start a new adventure together. Below you will see a selection of the groups that meet regularly – varying age groups, varying subjects being studied, varying stages in life accommodated. If you would like more information on our small group ministry or if you would like to join a group then please contact our small group coordinator at jason@mtoak.org.
Family Focused Group
This group meets every other Friday night and is focused on bringing parents and children together. Currently there are three families meeting together – 5 adults and 8 kids (elementary and middle school ages). This group teaches the Word through the use of storytelling. Currently the group is reading the fiction story, “Joel: A Boy of Galilee” which is set in Israel during the time of Jesus. Joel’s story is intertwined with that of Jesus in ways that illustrate some powerful life lessons and insights that Joel learns as he has encounters with Jesus. Through discussion and prayer, all the participants in this group relate the lessens Joel learns to their own lives.
Young Married/Engaged Couples
Every Monday night from 6.30pm until whenever the last person leaves, this great group of young couples, some married and some soon to be married, gather together to discuss and pray through issues that are important in creating a healthy marriage from a biblical perspective.
Topics that this group has explored, or intends to explore include:
- How to fight fair
- Are the In-laws really the outlaws?
- The Love Languages – which one does your partner speak the most?
- What exactly does a man need?
- What exactly does a woman need?
Where Great Desserts Meet Great Fellowship
Every other Friday evening from 7.30-9.30pm this group meets in the ‘M’ section of Bowie to encourage each other, pray for and support one another, worship together, read and discuss the Bible together and of course, enjoy those great desserts.
Married With Children
Getting a babysitter every week can become a little financially difficult so this group brings all the kids together with the parents where they are loved on by our own special sitter while the parents enjoy time to fellowship with each other and grow more in their Christian walk. This group is currently working through “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan and with all of the kids just one room away it certainly can seem a little crazy at times. We try to bring the children in to join us when we do worship or pray so we can model to them our Christian walks and ‘train them up in the way they should go’.
Institute on the Constitution
This soon to be forming group will spend twelve weeks or so investigating the truth about the Christian heritage of our country. Using this excellent DVD presentation, participants will have the chance to delve into what the founding fathers really meant with the words they passed down to us. For those who have experienced the Truth Project, this study follows a similar format and encourages study outside of group time.
Wouldn’t it be good to really understand the history behind some of the issues that appear regularly in the current political climate?
