For a devotion today Pastor Barnes would like to invite you to read something: Martin Luther King, Jr.’s speech “The Other America”. King is not popular with everyone. White racists and Marxists tend to oppose his ideas and approach to change. That is because King was a Christian minister, who believed in what America said it wanted to be and spoke of what God promised to do in the end.
So he invites you to read the whole speech. Notice what Dr. King said about riots (there are misleading Facebook memes about that), but also notice what he said about the conditions that lead to riots (if you have never done so, try to feel the despair), and then notice what he said about what must happen for America to be healed.
Then please feel free to email Pastor Barnes (pastorbob@mtoak.org) about what you agree and disagree with. If we are walking in the light we do not need to think in exactly the same way.
