Many of us who grew up in the evangelical church were immersed in the teaching that before Christ returns things will get really bad (the great tribulation), but before things get really bad God will suddenly remove the Christians from the world in an event known as “the rapture”.
Everyone believed that, and then we studied our Bibles for ourselves, and the doctrine of the rapture got shaky…
If, like many believers, you believe in Jesus Christ but have reservations and questions about the doctrines you were taught as a young person, then listen to this week’s midweek devotion. It will explain the very modern origins of rapture theology and examine some of the Scriptures which are typically employed to support it.
Christ will return; but you can believe that and still ask questions.
Speakers: Dr. Ben Witherington of Asbury Theological Seminary, and Dr. Michael W. Halcomb, with an introduction by Rev. Robert Barnes of Mount Oak Fellowship of the UMC
